I’m counting down the days (8 days) until the season premiere of Breaking Bad on July 15 at 10PM. As I navigate through this eagerness to start denying all social activities on Sunday evenings, I’ve been thinking about and rewatching many of my favorite scenes and episodes.
This, right here, is one of my absolute favorite scenes of Breaking Bad. It’s beautifully written, perfectly set up (Ken Wins is such a tool) creating a deeply satisfying pay-off. It’s without question brilliantly performed, and the explosion is exciting and unexpected. It’s one of the first times that we see Walter behaving so erratically, but also grounded with a deep purpose. It’s truly the very beginning of his transformation.
My other favorite part of this scene is their music choice. My friend Eugene turned me onto Darondo, probably after watching this scene, and it’s been a love affair between myself and Darondo’s music ever since. Here’s a link to the song in its entirety. I hope it becomes one of your favorites too.
July 15. Let’s hold hands and sit around the television, while animatedly watching Walter become the most dangerous man in New Mexico. That way it’ll really be special.
